Flash tape is the most common tape used among the composites industry. This blue-colored tape is a general-purpose high temperature (400 Deg. F.), high tensile strength polyester film that is coated with a pressure sensitive adhesive. Flash tape is most commonly used in the vacuum bagging process; this is due to the fact that this tape can withstand temperature up to 400 degrees without melting. It is resistant to most resins and common chemicals found in the composites shop. Along with masking off areas and protection against resin bleed out this tape works well as a general purpose tape in many areas of composite fabrication because it does not tear easily and can be removed with little effort after the Composite fabrication process is completed.
Green Powder Coating Masking Tapes, are made of 2 mil thick polyester film with 1.5 mil thick silicone adhesive. They can withstand temperatures of up to 400°F/(204°C). The can be removed cleanly without leaving any adhesive residue.
